Climate group says Tameika Isaac Devine is the city’s fiercest fighter for change
Today, Sunrise Movement Columbia officially endorsed Tameika Isaac Devine, their first endorsement. Sunrise Movement Columbia says, “Tameika has been city council’s fiercest fighter for change and justice since she got elected 20 years ago. As the first black woman ever elected to city council, who won her first election when she was just 29, Tameika knows why a Green New Deal is critical to our generation, and why we must confront the twin crises of climate change and systemic inequality. From working to guide the Climate Action Protection Campaign (CPAC) to make Columbia a cleaner, more sustainable city to her recent fight to make Columbia the first city in South Carolina to ban conversion therapy, Tameika is a trendsetter for change in Columbia. Now she is running to be our next mayor, and we have her back.”
Tameika is grateful for the endorsement and Sunrise Movement Columbia’s work for climate change and the next generation. You can learn more about the movement here.
